A refreshing drink made from peppermint leaves.
Peppermint, known for centuries as a spice and medicine, is the second most commonly used herb, right after chamomile. Mint easily cross-breeds, resulting in many varieties. As early as the 9th century, a monk famously stated that he would sooner count the sparks in a furnace than its numerous varieties.
It contributes to overall well-being and is an excellent antioxidant. In the Mediterranean, peppermint was cultivated by Egyptians and Greeks, who used its pungent aroma as a stimulant and nerve tonic.
Arabs cool down from the summer heat with warm mint tea. Introducing cold food and drinks into an overheated body can be a shock to the system. While a cold drink might offer momentary relief, it only cools our mucous membranes and stomach. The body quickly reacts by producing new heat, attempting to warm up the cooled organs. Iced tea is also frequently prepared from peppermint.
Harvested during the warmest months, Erilo peppermint is rich in essential oils and boasts a high menthol content. This gives the tea a rich aroma, an invigorating taste, and a refreshing aftertaste.
To prepare peppermint tea, boil water and remove it from the heat. Take one teaspoon of peppermint tea and pour 200 ml of hot water over it. Steep for 5 – 8 minutes.
The medicinal effects of true teas and herbs have been known for millennia in traditional medicine. Unfortunately, the European Parliament adopted Regulation (EC) No. 1924/2006, which prohibits health claims on food products. Therefore, we leave it to each individual to obtain information on the medicinal effects of peppermint tea.
